Overhaul

oh-ver-hawl

noun

Definition

Overhaul refers to an examination of machinery and the repairs or changes that are made in response to the condition of the system. Interchangeable with Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Tear Down, Overhauling machinery can be unavoidable, and the only process that can restore machinery to working condition. Maintenance technicians use Video Borescopes, Videoscopes, and other Inspection Cameras to do all that they can to avoid a complete dismantling. By inspecting and documenting when internal components may fail, they may be able to keep a system running longer before more drastic measures are needed.
