Definition

Useful Life is a system’s expected lifetime, or recommended period of use. Useful life can either refer to the amount of time that a manufactured part can be serviceable and supported by its manufacturer, or speak to the predicted time in use before replacement or repair. Part of Predictive Maintenance is constantly monitoring the condition of internal components and keeping tabs on this metric. Borescopes, Video Borescopes, and Videoscopes are all excellent ways to quickly inspect and document the expected Useful Life of thousands of different types of parts and machines. Knowing when machines are expected to be serviced is primary responsibility of maintenance technicians.
